Artist Spotlight: Meet Song Min Uk, the Korean Artist Making Waves in Afrobeats

A Korean artist from Seoul has discreetly become one of Afrobeats’ most intriguing new voices. His stage name is Para, and real name is Song Min Uk. His narrative is one of genuine cultural inquiry that evolved into undeniable musical chemistry.

Who Is Para?

Para is a South Korean vocalist, dancer, and award-winning performer who unexpectedly transitioned into the Nigerian Afrobeats genre. His trajectory is remarkable not only for the genre-crossing, but also for the extent to which he has embraced it. Para has fully immersed himself in the continent, learning the rhythms, absorbing the culture, studying the dance routines, and establishing genuine relationships with artists, rather than dipping a toe in for clout or a quick crossover moment.

The result is a sound that feels neither borrowed nor forced. Para’s performance is drawing attention from audiences due to his ability to move, cross-cultural storytelling, melodic melodies, and high-energy percussion.

Key Releases and Collaborations

Para’s breakthrough came through his partnership with Nigerian Afrobeat artist “Bima” (David Chimeremeze). The collaboration was immediately announced by their debut single GOGOGO (2025), It was culturally alive, danceable, and fresh in a manner that is uncommon for solely cosmetic fusions.

Launched with an exclusive listening event in Abuja in May 2025, the EP depicts the growing Korea–Nigeria musical bridge through rhythm, shared energy, and genuine creative investment. Each track pushes the fusion further, making the case that this is not a one-off experiment but an evolving artistic identity.

Building a Cultural Bridge

Para’s work has garnered backing from the “Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCC Nigeria)”, which has helped champion his projects as a meaningful example of cultural exchange through music.

He has been refreshingly open about what fuels him: “Hello, I’m Para,  a Korean in love with Afrobeats.” That candour, paired with genuine musical output, is precisely why people are paying attention.

He’s now a signed artist under producer R.tee’s label who is also the music producer for Blackpink, his new single “Ola” drops on 7th of April, I’m also excited for the release.

Afrobeats is no longer just Pan-African  it is planetary. Artists from across the globe are gravitating toward the genre, but few do it with the sincerity and profundity that Para brings. He is not sampling the aesthetic from a comfortable distance; he is living it, collaborating with local talent, and allowing the culture genuinely reshape his artistry from the inside out.
