Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has officially parted ways with Olamide’s YBNL Nation and launched his own record label, Giran Republic. This move was marked by the release of his latest single, “Why Love,” on February 12, 2025, under his new imprint.
Speculations about Asake’s departure from YBNL began in August 2024 when he updated his social media bios to include “Giran Republic” and created a dedicated Instagram page for the brand. These actions led fans to anticipate the launch of his own label.
Despite his exit from YBNL, Asake continues to maintain his distribution deal with Empire Music, ensuring his music reaches a global audience.
The release of “Why Love” not only signifies Asake’s new chapter as an independent artist but also showcases his evolving musical style. The track blends atmospheric Afrobeats with his signature sound, offering fans a glimpse into his future artistic direction.
In February 2025, Nigerian Afrobeats artist Asake attended the Grammy Awards accompanied by Alexa Rae Perkins, who is recognized as his business partner. Perkins shared photos of their time together at the event on her Instagram account, referring to Asake as her “brother” and praising his consistency, creativity, and dedication to his craft. She expressed her wishes for him to reach new heights and fulfill his destiny.
