Blaqbonez declares himself the king of African Rap (And Calling Out the Fakes)

When it comes to confidence, Blaqbonez is in a league of his own. In a recent interview with Chude, the Nigerian rapper, whose real name is Emeka Akumefule, didn’t just shake the table, he flipped it over entirely. Declaring himself the “best rapper in Africa,” Blaqbonez left no room for doubt, claiming his discography towers over that of any rapper on the continent.

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again,” he emphasized, unapologetically reaffirming his belief in his superiority. And because Blaqbonez never does half-measures, he didn’t stop there. He dove headfirst into the murky waters of streaming farms and chart manipulation, accusing some artists of faking their way to the top. According to him, it’s all about the money: “If they want to be No. 1, they’ll pay for fake streams.”

But Blaqbonez wasn’t just there to point fingers; he took a nostalgic detour, recalling his pioneering efforts in promoting success on digital streaming platforms (DSPs). According to him, while others were figuring out how to go viral, he was busy laying the groundwork for what it means to thrive in the streaming era. Essentially, if streaming success were a mansion, Blaqbonez claims to have been one of the first to lay the bricks.

Now, whether or not you agree with his claims, one thing is certain: Blaqbonez knows how to stir up a conversation. His audacity is his superpower, and he wields it with the same precision as a rapper spitting bars in a freestyle battle. It’s as if he’s walking into the African rap scene wearing a crown that says, “Debate me if you dare.”

So, is Blaqbonez the best rapper in Africa? Well, that’s up for the audience to decide. But if confidence were a currency, he’d be Bill Gates 🫠😂
